But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: A man going abroad called his servants and handed over his goods to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his particular ability… He who had received the five talents traded with them and gained five more; likewise the one with two gained two more; but he who had received the one went and hid his master’s money in the earth. After a long time the master returned and settled accounts… “Well done, good and faithful servant; because you have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master.”

Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”

At that time, the Jews, since it was the Preparation Day, in order that the bodies might not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath — for that Sabbath was a solemn day — besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other, who had been crucified with Him. For these things came to pass that the Scripture might be fulfilled, Not a bone of Him shall you break. And again another Scripture says, They shall look upon Him Whom they have pierced.
